Lizzy - Fishnet Scarf with Beads

You Will Need
7mm needles
1 skein Rowan Kidsilk Haze
256 seed beads
(NOTE: Kidsilk Haze is not the same as Kidsilk Aura - Aura is a much heavier yarn (aran vs lace) - I note a lot of people have been making this with Aura and saying it takes a lot of yarn. Making it in Haze results in an exceptionally light scarf.)

The Pattern

This pattern has been translated into French - you can find it here: http://salsamelie.canalblog.com/

Beaded Section 1
Put 128 beads on the yarn before casting on.

  2. I'm a new knitte and want to make this scarf! I understand everything up to this point? Is this scarf two pieces then sewn together. Hope you can help me with this!

  3. It's knit in one piece. Break yarn leaving enough to work 40 rows does not mean break yarn at end of middle section. You need to determine, after completing middle section, how much yarn you will need to complete next 40 rows. Leave yourself a little extra then break yarn. Now you add beads to the very long hanging end of yarn and continue knitting.

The reason this is done is because if you strung all the beads at once, the weight and friction of moving all those beads across the yarn will damage the Kidsilk Haze. (We wouldn't want that to happen!)

I'm not sure how you would accurately calculate how much yarn you would need to complete the last 40 rows. Perhaps someone else could help you with that. I suppose an alternative would be, instead of breaking off yarn to go to end of skein and add beads and continue. If the pattern uses most of the skein it shouldn't matter too much. If a good amount would remain unused you would run into the same problem of damaging your yarn remainder.

    Good luck!

  4. To estimate the amount of yarn needed, I weighed my ball of yarn before starting. I plan to weigh it again after the first 40 rows. That should give me a good enough approximation of how much wool is needed.

  5. Yarn weight is the thickness of the knitting yarn. You will see there is a vast range going from very fine weight or baby weight and chunky yarns as well. bomullsmattvarp
